Pearl River Performance
Soundboards
The soundboards on Pearl River pianos are made of Siberian Hybrid vertical-grain spruce with paper-thin surface laminates to prevent cracking. Due to the narrow surface laminates of spruce, spruce construction throughout, the thicker center core of spruce and the 30 degree offset of the surface laminate grain, vibrations are free to penetrate through the soundboard producing the rich, warm tones associated with Europe and America’s finest quality pianos. The process assures a soundboard that resists cracks while maintaining beautiful tone throughout the life of the piano.
Hammers
Pearl River hammers are made of premium-grade Japanese hammer felt that is double reinforced, stapled and wired, 18 pound outer felt and 12 pound under felt weight. These heavier hammers impact both the touch and the tone to insure freedom of expression while maintaining long-lasting durability.
Piano Action
Pearl River produces the majority of piano action for all Pearl River pianos, in addition to having available European action on specified pianos. An extruded aluminum action is utilized for stability and consistent regulation. An ABS action is utilized as well. The remainder of the action components are maple and buckskin to coincide with the 100% virgin wool Japanese hammer-felts.
Sand Cast Plates
Pearl River’s sand cast plates are heavier and, in fact, have a different molecular structure than piano plates utilizing vacuum processing. The Pearl River process employees a natural cooling/aging process that takes more time and requires a much more work intensive finishing process. Because Pearl River plates are heavier and almost acoustically dead by comparison with vacuum processed plates, they produce a tone that’s deep and rich akin to the most expensive European and American piano brands.
Keys & Key Bed
The keys on all Pearl River pianos are triple laminated spruce which tends to eliminate sticking, enhance strength and promote long-lasting durability. The keyboard is built of Euro-designed butcher- block to provide for stable, level key positioning. Pearl River key beds have no plastic or Styrofoam components.
Roslau Music Wire
Roslau music wire is used in all Pearl River pianos and is the same the fine quality wire found in the finest European and American pianos. It is the appropriate gauge to accompany the low-tension scale employed by Pearl River to deliver our deep, rich tone. Solid copper wire is wrapped around the strings to provide for a beautiful bass tone.
