This remarkable instrument is an identical re-creation of the piano Cole Porter played in his Waldorf Astoria residence, and on which he wrote many of his best loved songs. Skillfully re-created by Steinway master craftsmen in figured mahogany, the design features double Empire-style legs, intricate hand-carvings and decorative paintings to beautifully embody the passion and creative spirit of this great American composer. Mr. Porter?s original Steinway was created in 1907, and today distinguishes the lobby of the famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan.

Cole Porter
1891-1964

"Night and Day", "Anything Goes", and "I Get A Kick Out Of You" are some of the most memorable, most romantic songs ever written. And they all came from the pen, and piano, of the legendary Cole Porter. Born in Indiana, Mr. Porter composed his first song at the age of ten. In the 1920s and ?30s, his distinctive lyrics and musical complexity earned him great fame and respect worldwide.

Although severely injured in a horseback riding accident in 1937, Mr. Porter continued to create and compose. His most successful musical of all, ?Kiss Me Kate?, opened in 1948 on Broadway, and remains one of America?s most loved musicals.

The Steinway & Sons High Society re-creation is testament to the composer?s unique style, sophistication and artistry.
